Hunter initially faced felony charges in the wake of an incident at a Virginia Beach, Va. bar during Fourth of July weekend, but the charge was recently reduced to a misdemeanor.

Prosecutors said at Hunter’s arraignment that the receiver initiated the fight and punched a man twice in the face, breaking his jaw.

Hunter’s attorneys said another person actually threw the punch in question, but the Tennessean reported that person failed to appear at a scheduled court hearing Sept. 1, resulting in the case being continued to Tuesday.

Those proceedings resulted in a Virginia judge finding Hunter not guilty after a four-hour trial, according to the Virginian-Pilot.

Prosecutors released a statement that read: “The Commonwealth respects this ruling although we disagree with it. It is our belief we had sufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Hunter had remained active for the Titans while the legal process played out. He had one catch for 11 yards in Sunday’s season-opening win against the Buccaneers.
