Originally announced in 2021, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans were filled with anticipation after a Gamescom trailer later that year showed that TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge would be a throwback to the classic console and arcade TMNT games. Featuring an art style and gameplay mechanics instantly familiar to fans of arcade hits like Teenage Mutant Turtles: Turtles in Time, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge received generally positive reviews from players and critics when it released for PC and consoles in summer 2022. In addition to being lauded for its excellent combat and online co-op, many gamers praised the TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge soundtrack for its eclectic mix of artists ranging from the Wu-Tang Clan to Faith No More frontman Mike Patton.

In patch notes for the new update, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge developer Tribute Games lets players know that “Christmas arrives a bit earlier than usual” this year with the debut of a new arcade mode, new visual filters, and a slew of bug fixes for the PC and console beat-em-up. Designed to appeal to those looking to customize their experience with the game, the Custom Arcade Mode will let players use dip switches to toggle different game settings. From making Super Attacks cost health instead of Ninja Power, to eliminating revives, the dip switches can give struggling players a boost or raise the challenge for master ninjas.

In addition to the new Custom Arcade Mode, the holiday update for TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge also adds two new visual filters to the game. For players looking for a truly nostalgic experience, the CRT and VCR filters will give the game the appearance of running on a tube TV or a well-worn videotape. Between recent updates for TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge and TMNT: Cowabunga Collection and the announcement of a new AAA TMNT game for 2023, it’s a great time for fans of the franchise.

This new update is a perfect excuse for new players to finally check out TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, or for returning players to up the challenge in Arcade Mode. For those gamers looking for some decidedly more 3D Turtle action this holiday season, though, there’s always the TMNT mod for Marvel’s Spider-Man to consider.

TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
